The historical treasures of Provence
The spectacular region of Provence is home to some of France’s best wines and sightseeing. A visit to Arles, where visitors are treated to a host of art and cultural festivals, should be included on the touring list. There is always the architectural masterpiece Roman Triumphal Arch in Orange, which is the symbol of the Roman imperialism, or you can look the many Van Gogh paintings, which are scattered throughout the popular town of Arles.
The town of Avignon is a great historical treasure with its numerous buildings, cobble streets and scenic surroundings. Enjoy a tour of this amazing city as you see sights and monuments that include Vaison la Romaine, Mont Ventoux, Fontaine de Vaucluse and L’Isle sur la Sorgue.
The region is also famous for its historical Van Gogh paintings at Arles and St. Rémy de Provence and spectacular Olive trees at Maussane les Alpilles and Les Baux de Provence. Along the Rhone River outside of Orange is the beautiful Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Not only will you enjoy the castle, but also the panoramic views.
There is also the ancient Roman aqueduct, Pont du Gard, which is an UNESCO World Heritage Site and ingenious piece of engineering. The picturesque village of Roussillon is also a great place to take in some of Provence’s history or enjoy unforgettable scenery as you stroll along the cliffs and breathtaking landscape.
